Swapping Shadows \\ Company Concentric
Yanaëlle Thiran in collaboration with Shivaangee Agrawal
"We dance with the shadows And become more than we are More than we could have been Before we stumbled into the shadow shoes And attempted to submerge ourselves in them" – Kathryn Rock In Swapping Shadows, two dancers attempt to walk in each other’s footsteps. Drawing respectively from bharatanatyam and contemporary techniques, they unveil the complementarity of both dance languages. Sometimes echoing poetic words, sometimes whirling to world music, they transfer movements from one form to the other and one level to the next. Simple steps slide into stylized actions. Floorwork starts a conversation with upright positions. Through tireless journeys across the space, the performers softly conquer their positions and swiftly swap places until they meet in strong, sister-like unisons. Created in London, at The Place’s Resolution Festival, Swapping Shadows travelled to Almada (Portugal) in 2018 and was restaged at Dance Festival Croydon in 2019. Credits:

Mania revolves around a husband and wife and the disintegration of their day to day lives. The piece examines how working in the rat race, and societies disregard of mental health issues can cause a spiral of neglect; distraught and confused they try to find their place in the world. As things start to unravel between them, the wife gets trapped in her own imaginary world. It explores sexuality, addiction, relationships and vulnerability that are often associated with mental illnesses. It is an engaging piece, in which the audience will reel from moment to moment with the couple – at times enjoying peace and clarity, before their grip on reality slips and the ground falls from beneath them. Some feedback from Birmingham Dance Network's Introducing 2019 was that it was "truly amazing - felt the passion at every part" Credits: Programme Photo by Brian Slater |

"truly amazing - felt the passion within every part" - Birmingham Dance Network's Introducing 2019
a fragile geography: PLACES \\ Daniel Navarro Lorenzo
What does nature mean to us? What do we remember of nature in the urban landscapes of streets, museums and parks? What will we remember in the future when all nature is artificial? This new dance piece will follow the music into dreams of the synthetic environment. Based on the memory of what nature means to us and what will be remembered in this future fictitious world, where society has tried to recreate a synthetic and artificial nature. My inspiration for the piece comes from living in Singapore for the past three years where there are a lot of 'recreations' of nature, and the superficiality that comes with that. I could see on the streets, museums, or parks that have tried to 'fake' nature in this increasingly urban city. It will be based on the feelings of the loneliness and the darker side of human beings. A character who tries to find nature to become like those who lived before him/her. Just like it is for me, music will be what guides the character through this journey and is what will make him/ her dream and believe in his imaginary world.
